Marty Davis Memorial Music Scholarship
About the Fund
Marty Davis influenced countless lives through her relentless pursuit of excellence as a music educator and as a quintessential lifelong learner. Her curiosity and unique spirit continued through her final days before her untimely passing from the COVID-19 virus. The mission of this foundation is to continue Ms. Davis’s commitment to providing opportunities to aspiring young musicians and to perpetuate the generosity of her spirit through music scholarships.
The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to rising third or fourth year college music students (with preference being given to vocal performance and choral music education majors) through an application process.
In addition to college music majors, the scholarship fund will support selected school-age applicants in the LaGrange area who would benefit from furthering their musicianship through participation in the Young Singers of West Georgia Choral and Vocal Programs.
Marty Davis Memorial Music Scholarship Applications open at the end of the school year through July 23.

“The legacy Ms. Davis left behind is so inspiring to hear about from my peers who worked with her individually.. Although I did not work with her, I feel that I benefited from her instruction through LHS chorus and Young Singers of West Georgia. I was a member of both organizations and I credit them for the skills I have developed as a vocal performer. Receiving this scholarship would allow me to continue my training at Auburn University, and in so doing, honor her legacy as a native of LaGrange who has benefited from her dedication to the many young people she trained and the love of music that she instilled in them.”

“Ms. Marty was the person who taught me how to turn my love of music into action. I have loved music for my entire life, but it was Ms. Marty who showed me how to pursue excellence in classical music even when I felt scared or discouraged with it. For Ms. Marty, a love for music wasn’t something you felt; it was something you did, something you are. While I learned a great deal of vocal technique from her, that was the lesson that stuck with me most profoundly from the three years I studied with her. I pray that, during the times in my life when the feeling of loving music might not come as naturally to me, I will mimic Ms. Marty in the way that she chose to love music, first and foremost, with her actions.”

“I strive to one day help a child experience the sense of community, acceptance, and individuality that my music teachers have instilled in me, and offer a mentor and confidant to any student in need. Nothing excites me more than the opportunity to do so. As a working student, this scholarship would be exponentially beneficial allowing me to continue my college degree without financial hardship.”

“I was so grateful to have the opportunity to study privately through this scholarship my senior year. It helped me take my voice to another level and prepared me for my pursuit of a musical theatre degree.”
2024 Vocal Lessons Division Recipient, Aaron Kemper

“Receiving the Marty Davis Vocal Lesson Scholarship helped me to improve my voice in so many ways: my tone, theory skills, and breath control just to name a few. It is also one of the main reasons I chose to pursue a music degree in college. It was truly life changing.”
